WHAT IS A DIDGERIDOO ?
The Didgeridoo is the most ancient windinstrument on earth.
The «ancestor of all flutes & trumpets», discovered by the
aboriginal people of Australia, has been played since over 50.000 years.
It is made from eucalyptus, hollowed out by termites and it is mostly
decorated with aboriginal designs such as totem animals and symbols of
the Dreamtime in ocrecoloures.
As a trance-instrument the Didgeridoo can function to expand awareness
into Dreamtime.
The Didgeridoo is sacred and should be played with greatest respect!
HOW IS THE DIDGERIDOO PLAYED ?
Before blowing with loose vibrating lips into the thinner end of the usual
conical shaped windinstrument,- the player is adviced to tune in to connect
with the spirit of the instrument, from where the deep vibrational sound
is created, rich in overtones. The primal drone is maintained through
circular breathing.
This special breathing technique allows the player to have a constant
outlet of air through the mouth while breathing in through the nose simultaneously.
Soundmodulations and rhythms are created with help of cheeks, tongue and
different breathing patterns.
